Epping Market

Written by Nina Ganci

Cape Town, colourful and beautiful. Nothing speaks volumes like the locals – the Cape Coloured. Their colourful language, culture and mannerisms, speak of the Cape.

Dad use to love going to Epping Market regularly. It is filled with fresh fruit and vegetables direct from the farms. From this point onwards they are sold to shops. Just outside the market, is a section where various vendors sell their products to smaller shops and the public.

Today, this section has been modernized and now sterile buildings are overflowing with colourful fruit and vegetables.

7 years and still going strong

Image7 years ago, I followed a dream and was guided to start an Holistic Fayre in the Northern Suburbs. Little did I know where I would be guided and the events that would follow.

In July 2007 we opened our doors for the first time in Durbanville. Exciting times lay ahead. Twenty Exhibitors signed up, and by 4pm we had over 200 visitors stream through our doors. Wow! What an achievement! We even had room for a drumming circle and Free Talks!

In July 2008 we celebrated our first birthday in Durbanville. By this stage, we were so busy, and we outgrew the hall, there no room for new Exhibitors and the public found the venue very cramped. So: by the end of 2008, we moved to our new and improved hall, in Bothasig.

Within a few month of transferring the Fayre to Bothasig, due to unforeseen circumstance, The Northern Suburbs Holistic Fayre together with 40 Exhibitors, moved temporarily to the little community hall in Edgemead for 6 months, and celebrated our 3rd birthday there. By Christmas 2009, we were back at our favourite hall, Bothasig.

Our 4th Birthday in 2010 saw the World Cup Soccer played in South Africa, and we celebrated it under the first rain that the Northern Suburbs Holistic Fayre ever experienced. The rain washed away all our old problems and gave birth to new ventures and experiences.

2011 saw the first of our now popular shows: Belly Dancing, Hula Hoop, Bollywood Dancing, Fire Dancing, Drumming Circle to mention but a few.

In 2012 the 20minute Free Talks were re-introduced at the Holistic Fayre. These talks have proved to be extremely popular and well attended.

Today , 2013, we celebrate our 7th Birthday – we have reached our 7th Heaven. Thanks to our hard work, we are proud to announce that 3 other new Holistic Fayres have opened in The Northern Suburbs, thus forcing us to change our name from Northern Suburbs Holistic Fayre to The Holistic Fayre, Bothasig. We are proud to be the catalyst in this new trend. We are proud to be the leaders and pioneers in breaking new ground in the Northern Suburbs by introducing wholesome living. We take this opportunity to wish the other Holistic Fayres everything of the best.

Long may we all prosper together. Together we can spread Love, Light, Harmony and Friendship.

Energy of Number 6

Image

The number 6 vibrates to the energies of ownership, possessions and material wealth, love of home and family, care of others and nurturing, empathy and sympathy, responsibility and selflessness, provision and providing for the self and others. Number 6 signifies the need for stability in all aspects of your life.

The message of Number 6 is to keep a balance between your material goals and aspirations, and your spiritual, inner-self. Be grateful for what you have already, as an ‘attitude of gratitude’ encourages further positive abundance.

Number 6 encourages you to be loving, caring and nurturing of yourself and others.

ImageSpirit of Six: Self-harmony; compassion; love; service; social responsibility; beauty, the Arts; generous; concerned; caring; children; balance; community service.

Influence of Six: Six is a center for harmony and balance, an excellent place for a family, especially with children. Six can contribute to feelings of wanting to help others and community service. Six is also excellent for those wanting to develop their artistic abilities or for nurturing and caring, such as a counselor or medical professional. In a Six it is easy to get to the heart of matters in a caring and compassionate way. Close loving relationships with your partner, roommates, friends and family come to life in a Six. Beautifying a Six as well as the surrounding area will drive those under this influence.

Challenges of a Six: Six is so geared toward giving there may be a tendency to give too much — seek a balance between giving to others and taking care of your own needs. The comfort in a Six may make one reclusive — push yourself out into the wide world!

Readers

I am often asked:  What exactly is a Psychic? or a Clairvoyant?  What does channeling mean?

I myself was not too sure what exactly they all meant; though knew they had something to do with Readers.  So decided to do some research and this is what I found

Psychic Medium – someone who serves as an intermediary between the living and the dead

Clairvoyant –  a person who is able to detect things that aren’t normally recognized by the senses

Channeling –  a person who conveys thoughts or energy from a source believed to be outside the person’s body or conscious mind; specifically : one who speaks for nonphysical beings or spirits

Armed with this knowledge, it should now make it easier to visit Readers.  Depending on what you feel comfortable with.

Yes, there are a lot of Readers out there, all professing to give you accurate answers.  How do you know they are ‘good’?  Or do they try to manipulate  your life?  Are  you depend on a Reader?

Entertainment, curiosity or a need to get another opinion on a complicated life issue are a few of the many reasons for consulting  Readers.

Readers often specialize in a particular field, and some are also trained as therapists or counselors with a Master of Divinity degree or a diploma in clinical social work.

  1. Think about your reasons for using a Reader. Different issues require different types of Readers.
  2. Decide what specialty you’d like your Reader to have. Specialties include palm or tarot card reading, angel readings, crossing over, intuitive readings, numerology, astrology and tea leaves.  There is a wide field here – search until you find one that resonates with you
  3. You should feel comfortable with the person you are asking to read for you.
  4. Ask friends or family for recommendations. Often the best Readers don’t advertise; instead, they obtain clients by word-of-mouth.
  5. Visit the Holistic Fayre in Bothasig, walk round and see which Reader you would resonate with.  Chat or have a short session with him/her.  If you resonate well, then make a proper booking at his/her house.

When interviewing a Reader, listen to your gut feelings. Avoid working with anyone who makes you feel uncomfortable or vulnerable or tells you anything that frightens you.

Similarly, avoid a Reader who makes outrageous claims that raise skepticism.

A good Reader is a professional with whom you should feel comfortable and safe.

Tips and Warning

  • If you leave a Reader feeling scared, frightened or depressed, never go back to this person and erase from your memory all that you were told by them!
  • If a Reader insists that they know better than you what is right for you, never go back!
  • If a Reader wants to sell you candles or prayers to improve your lot in life, to take away an evil curse, to bring you money or to find the perfect mate, never go back.
  • If a Reader insists that you should come back on a regular basis so that they can help you through a difficult time, be very careful.
  • If you feel the Reader doesn’t genuinely care about you, never go back!
  • Avoid any Reader who asks for money in exchange for removing a curse or a threat to your life or that of a loved one. This is a common scam used by unscrupulous con artists to intimidate people and gain wealth.
  • Finally, if you leave a reading without feeling empowered or without having gained a new perspective on your life and your choices, you might want to shop for a new Reader.

Most reputable Readers charge a flat rate per session or on an hourly basis

If you find yourself consulting a Reader more often than you’d like, consider if you’re addicted to the excitement and attention involved in a reading. Also consider if you’re avoiding something in your life. Readers are not a quick fix: What may be needed is a deeper exploration of the issues involved that only a trained therapist or counselor can provide.

How the Angels Guided me

We all sometimes procrastinate and we all at some stage of our lives receive urgent bills that require your immediate attention.

Well, that is where I found myself in April 2006.  Remember, I was guided  by the Angels to start an Holistic Fayre in the Northern Suburbs, but so far I had done nothing.

Then I received an account that required my attention, and I knew I had to do something urgently.

I decided that the quickest way was to sell some of my crystal jewellery to office staff.  So, I packed my car with stock with the intention of going to Montague Garden, but the Angels had other plans.

As my petrol gauge started flashing, I noticed I was on the back road to Durbanville.  Why did I not go to Montague Gardens or Kilarney?  I wondered!  Still no idea as to why I was being lead to an area I did not know at all.

Upon arriving in Durbanville, I remembered someone once said to me:  “If you looking for a venue for the market, ask Estate Agents.”  Would you believe it – right there in front of me was an Estate Agent Office.

Directed to various schools in the area, I did my rounds.  Somehow the venues did not seem correct – parking, hall etc.  Nothing felt right.

Lastly, I walked into the Community Hall through the side door  (which is always locked, but on this occasion it was open).

As I walked in, I just knew, this is it!  This is the venue.  Wow!  I was thrilled!

I quickly went to see the municipality, and booked September, October and November months.  December was not available, neither were dates before.

I came home quite proud of myself, and started putting things into action.
As excited as I was, there were a few friends that questioned my dreams and inspiration.  They suggested all sorts of things about my proposed new scheme, and I was starting to doubt myself.

In May month I connected once again with my Angels, and asked them for help and a sign.  I asked that the sign be a date for July month.  If I could get a date for July, I knew I would be blessed and that I was guided and not my imagination.

Next morning, bright and early, saw me at the Municipality once again.  I confirmed all the dates and asked if it were possible if they had a date available for July month.

Would you believe it – they had just had a cancellation.  This confirmation was more than I needed at the time.  No, there was no date available for August month, remember, I did not ask for one.  Now I knew that the Fayre would be blessed.

On a beautiful warm winter’s day in July month we opened our doors. I was more than nervous and insecure. I am human!  I knew the Angels were with us and we were blessed.

By the time we got to October month, again, friends were telling me what to do and not do.  Some even advised to close down the Fayre.  So once again, I approached the Angels.  And asked them, if I am the right person to do this
Fayre, that if I must continue to give me a date for December.

So bright and early in October 2006, I walk into the municipality office in Durbanville.  I confirm all the dates for 2007 and then the lady asks me:  “I see you do not have a date for December, would you like one?”  I reply:  “if one is available.  Why not?”

She paged through the diary, and says “How about 9 December, would that suit you?”

The hairs on my back stood on end.  Why do I doubt the Angels?  Why do I question their guidance?  Who am I to question them?

Not only did they give me a date in December! They gave me my birthday!  The date for the December Fayre was my birthday.

Since then, I never looked back, nor doubted the Angel’s guidance and advice.  I follow their advice always.
This month we celebrate our 5th Birthday Bash.  Guided by Angel Wings we are growing stronger and strong.

Welcome! It’s our Birthday Bash.

History of About Holistic

How time flies!

It feels like just yesterday when we opened our doors for the first time in the Northern Suburbs.

In February 2006, I was guided to start the Holistic Fayre in the Northern Suburbs.  This made me very nervous indeed, but guided by the Angels, I found the perfect venue.  July 2006 saw us in Durbanville.  I knew this venue was only temporary to help me build confidence and find the right Exhibitors.

February 2008, we moved to our current premises in Bothasig. The Bothasig hall always called me, and I felt right at home and comfortable.  The hall is spacious, has a wonderful courtyard, large foyer, enormous stage with a minor hall and extensive main hall.  The sky- light brought in the much required sun light.  The hall proved to be spacious and quickly filled up with our energy.

Alas, 6 months later, due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to move temporarily   to Edgemead Hall, where we celebrated our 3rd birthday. But we were back in time for Christmas in our favourite hall in Bothasig.

Our 4th Birthday was celebrated with World Cup Soccer, and today, we are proud to announce our 5th Birthday Celebrations.

We have now become a regular feature in the Northern Suburbs. Our website is filled to the brim with news and events happening in the area, plus interesting reads, information, and inspirational stories to inspire you.

I have learnt so much from you, our Visitors – our website is very popular indeed, our weekly gazette well read.  Caring and devoted Exhibitors, interesting talks and workshops plus now also our new blog.

I am proud to say, that our mailing list has grown over the years to more than I expected:  all email addresses obtained directly from people who are interested.  Our website is receiving over 600 visits per day.  Somehow I feel the Angels are smiling upon us all, there is even one over your shoulder now, smiling as you read.

Welcome! It’s Our Birthday Bash
